PROJECTS

BUILDING:     USS GEARING

This page covers the construction and arming of an American destroyer, the USS Gearing with 3-Guns.  The novel aspect of this project is a completely vac-u-formed superstructure.

REFIT:     USS MISSOURI

This 12 foot, 1/72 scale model of the USS Missouri had fallen into major disrepair after years as a recruiting tool for a 1/144 club.  Follow the process of bringing this proud ship back to life.

BUILDING:     CONVOY VESSELLS

Never been the most glamorous ships to build, but they do have their place in warship combat.  Check out several vac-u-formed merchant ships that have been built by club members as targets.

ARMING LARGE:     DKM TIRPITZ

Arming an 11 foot Battleship was still no easy task.  It also took countless hours to detail this behemoth.  A project that could have easily overwhelmed most modelers.  Check this ship out!

TESTING:     SUBMARINE TORPEDOES

So how to you get a 1/72 scale torpedo to travel straight, underwater and can you hit your target?  Testing, testing and more testing.  The successful design didn’t just fall out of a tree.  OUCH!

BUILDING:  RM POLA

Carrying 8 foot long Cruisers around can be a task.  Make things easy on yourself- split in in half.  Can it fit into a VW Bug; probably not, but it will fit in most hatchbacks.

ARMING SMALL:  GERMAN E-BOAT

Putting guns in a Battleship has got to be easy with all that room.  Try arming one of these little 18 inches hulls; and you want radio, motors, steering and gun system?  You’ve got to be kidding.

RESURRECTION:  NEW LIFE FOR THE IJN AOBA

Broken in half during transit from Washington to California.  This ship was being given up for dead until a new owner stepped in to feed new life into this once great fighting Cruiser.
